Our recipe is both simple and reliable. To come up with the list of the most impressive Halloween movies we decided to turn to a single most competent person who has earned a reputation of being the king of horror โ€“ Mr. Stephen King! He turned 72 a month ago and has written 88 books over the course of his life. His talent to tap into the deepest human psyche to find out what scares us has been well noticed by Hollywood โ€“ more than 40 movies were made based on his books since 1976.

This list showcases why Stephen King will always be the master of the horror genre both in literature and in movies.

  • It (2017). The movie fear factor rests on how personal terror could be for children. The events take place in a small town (most of King’s stories have that in the center as the author himself grew up in a small town in the state of Main) where the Evil starts to terrorize little kids.
  • 1408 (2007). In this movie, 1408 is the number of a room in the New York City hotel. The leading role is played by John Cusack who is an incorrigible skeptic investigating paranormal activity in that room. A closed atmosphere of a single room full of creepy phenomena makes this movie especially nightmarish.
  • The Mist (2007). A group of random people gets stuck in a small-town grocery store surrounded by a paranormal mist. What is special about that mist? It is packed with monsters! The plot is full of thrilling close encounter moments, but the ending will not disappoint you either.
  • Misery (1990). A classical horror movie that had numerous sequels filmed later. A famous author gets into a traffic accident and wakes up in the house of a lonely woman. His initial relief that he was alive and taken care of quickly shakes away as the “fan” takes a hammer and smashes his legs, making him a prisoner of the insane woman in a secluded house.
  • Pet Sematary (1989). Another classical horror masterpiece that still holds up well despite the age. The question the movie explores is ageless: what if you could bring the loved ones back from the dead? Should you do that?
  • Children of the Corn (1984). A young couple gets strangled in a small town to find out later that the town is run by some crazy children cult worshipping โ€œHe Who Walks Behind the Rowsโ€ of corn. The movieโ€™s reputation has been somewhat damaged by the numerous subpar sequels, but the original holds up well.
  • The Shining (1980). Probably the scariest movie ever made based on Kingโ€™s books. A father accepts a new position in another town and takes his family to accompany him to his new work in a hotel. It is his son who possesses โ€œthe shiningโ€ and makes the hotelโ€™s creepy past visible to the family. Soon the supernatural forces flood the hotel testing the father’s sanity and putting the son and wife in extreme danger.ย
